I offer the editing services listed below for the following types of documents: fiction and nonfiction book manuscripts; book proposals and query letters; newsletters, pamphlets, manuals, and other business-related materials; master’s thesis papers and doctoral dissertations; essays, articles, web pages, blog posts, and other online content. Client may request a specific combination of editing services and/or multiple rounds of editing. Most of my services are quoted at an hourly rate, though I do offer a per-word rate for certain services (see below).

PROOFREADING/MECHANICAL EDITING ($50 per hour or $.015 per word)
Correct typos and errors involving grammar, mechanics, usage, formatting, etc. in a final draft of a manuscript (in MS Word or PDF format), following guidelines from applicable style guide, such as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), the Christian Writer’s Manual of Style (CWMS), the Associated Press Stylebook (AP), or the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
LINE-BY-LINE COPYEDITING ($55 per hour or $.02 per word)
Examine every word and punctuation mark to ensure consistency, clarity, and correctness, possibly including some mechanical and/or content editing; also includes following applicable style guides. (This is the most thorough, detailed level of editing and generally comes directly before final proofreading; it is also the most commonly chosen service, often considered as part of a copyediting/proofreading hybrid stage.)
CONTENT EDITING (2 types):
*This content editing stage comes before line-by-line copyediting.
- DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING ($50 per hour)—Assist client with decisions about content, method of presentation, degree of documentation, etc., possibly from rough draft to final manuscript and with ongoing input from client; usually includes a detailed book map (using Excel); does not include thorough line-by-line editing.
- SUBSTANTIVE EDITING ($50 per hour)—Edit manuscript for basic issues of organization and presentation, style, order, and clarity; does not include thorough line-by-line editing. (This stage of content editing comes before line-by-line copyediting.)
MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT/CRITIQUE ($50 per hour)
Read and review entire manuscript and provide detailed feedback and input in the following areas: organization, content, flow, voice, plot, pacing, characterization, dialogue, etc.; does not include extensive line-by-line editing or suggestions. (This stage comes before either type of content editing.)
BOOK PROPOSAL and/or QUERY LETTER DEVELOPING/EDITING ($50 per hour)
Proofread and perform copyediting and/or substantive editing of book proposal or query letter draft(s); may include line-by-line editing.
WRITING COACHING ($45 per hour)
Create customized plan to provide feedback, instruction, and guidance on client’s project, whether from initial brainstorming to rough draft to final draft or any point in between; usually includes written input on client’s writing as well as regular Zoom sessions to review feedback and steer client toward next steps.
BASIC MANUSCRIPT TYPESETTING (Interior Book Design) ($45 per hour)
Format and prepare manuscript for printing/self-publishing, based on client’s choice of book trim size and interior design template; does not include e-book formatting.
DISSERTATION or MASTER'S THESIS EDITING ($.025 per word)
Edit/proofread doctoral or master’s program manuscript line by line, applying applicable style guide and checking all citations and bibliography entries.
